About Neworleansmusicman

I’ve loved Mardi Gras since moving to NOLA. I lived at the corner of Rampart and Esplanade, and I remember watching a parade from my bedroom window, which overlooked Rampart St. I told my girlfriend I wasn’t the type to wave my hands in the air and scream “Throw Me Something, Mister!”.  Turns out I was that type.

I’ve had several Mardi Gras businesses: I’ve been a Mardi Gras magazine publisher; had my own float in Tucks for several years; distributed Mardi Gras media in the French Quarter and in Time-Life & Sony home media catalogs; co-produced Mardi Gras Music Medallions which Bacchus, Alla and Thoth purchased among others; march annually with Krewe du Vieux; created and maintain the popular Mardi Gras blog at blog.carnivalneworleans.com

I license master recordings to Japan, Europe, and the USA. Label artists have included Johnny Winter, Professor Longhair, T-Bone Walker, Freddie King, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Bob Wills, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Clifton Chenier, and many others.

I tour premier New Orleans musicians to top overseas venues including Montreux & North Sea Jazz Festivals, Silja Boat Line, Pori & Istanbul Jazz Festivals, and Notodden Blues Festival. Artists include Irma Thomas, Eddie Bo, James Andrews & Trombone Shorty; Algiers, New Birth & Treme Brass Bands; Mo’Lasses Brass Band, Larry Hamilton Trio, Sammy Berfect Trio, and Bruce Daigrepont. 2009 saw the TBC Brass Band in Bilbao, Spain.

I brokered the half million dollar publishing deal with the House of Blues publisher as marketing consultant for SongByrd, Inc., the Professor Longhair estate. The publisher who picked up SongByrd also purchased Earl King and James Booker’s publishing catalogs, keeping these key publishing rights in the USA.

Somehow, it all comes back to Mardi Gras, certainly the world’s greatest free party. It all takes place in New Orleans, a top 5 World City. Hope to see YOU at the Mardi Gras!!

    Hey David,
Lot’s of potential for you with Rabadash artists. I just make records. I don’t have your business smarts. Please take a look at the website. Waylon Thibodeaux could be booked around the world for big money. Big Daddy ‘O’ is receiveing national chart attention. Amanda Walker totally untapped.

    Happy Mardi Gras!!

I’d like to see cities, large and small, who don’t normally celebrate Fat Tuesday, take Purple Green and Gold, and in their own creative way decorate structures to send the “WeCare!” message. Fat Tuesday is February 24, 2009: Lets use Social Networking (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc) to spread the word. Reach out to the leaders in your home town.

Spread the word, via email, blog, social network, and use the “BOOKMARK” button on page linked above (easily post to various sites).

We are coming to New Orleans to celebrate my friend’s 50th birthday and am looking for a 2nd Line Band to lead us to dinner on 7/17. We do not need a large band but would like someone with alot of energy to make this special and fun. Any suggestions?

Great blog!! I am a HUGE fan of Mardi Gras since I went to my first one several years ago. My first was the first one after Katrina- so it was unlike all the ones before (from what I was told) I met so many great people who invited me to join them along the parade route, shared drinks and stories of Mardi Gras past with me. Gave me the history and meaning of the things I was seeing and what to expect next. I adopted a “Mardi Gras Mom” that year and actually found her in the crowd on Canal the next year when I not only came to N.O. for Mardi Gras but talked friends into joining me and we joined the Krewe of Morpheus and rode for the first time. I’ve been a couple other times and riden one more time, but haven’t been last year and doesn’t look like I’ll make it down this year either. I put up a Mardi Gras tree- on 12th night- and make my King Cakes from scratch- baby and all. Can’t wait to check back to see what you blog next. Thanks and keep up the spirit!!! Best wishes from N.C.

    Greetings David,
It has come to my attention that you are using a photo of mine without permission or photo credit. Please remove “Angels at Joan of Arc Parade” from this blog.

    Thanks,
